Your wedding is a great time for creativity. Where can you get inspiration to create your perfect day. Some couples turn to Pinterest, Google, and YouTube. They are great sources to fan your personal inspiration. Pinterest in particular led to the rise of the chocolate fountain, donut walls, vintage popcorn machines, and even our brand new Flying Cotton Candy (see below).
As with anything, not all ideas were gems. Two in particular come to mind as an entertainer.
The RSVP with the song request line
This sounds great in theory, but if you have 50 singles and 50 couples coming to your reception, that means 100 requests. There isn’t enough time in the whole reception to get to them all. As DJ’s, we can typically get to about 20 requests during a reception. That means we are instantly going to disappoint more than 50% of your guests. Instead, let guests make requests at the reception. A good DJ can fit requests around the newlyweds’ requests and our talent in reading the crowd.
The Individual Song Choice For Every Couple in the Wedding Party
This idea came from YouTube mostly. You see cute little dance moves that the bridal party will do as they are introduced to their own special song. What they don’t show you in those cool video cuts is that it almost triples the time it takes to introduce the bridal party. If you have 5 or 6 couples that are being introduced before the happy couple, that could change a 3 min introduction into a 7-9 min introduction. Some weddings are fine with the added time, but most are on a catering schedule that also has to account for the first dance, blessing, and toast(s) that have to happen before the salad course comes out. Instead, pick a feeling that you want to instill in the introductions. That can be fun, elegant, or high energy. Let your entertainer help you pick the perfect song for the bridal party and one for you, the newlyweds. It will flow more smoothly and give you the feel that you want to create.
At the end of the day, this is your big day. You should have it anyway you want. Talk to anything that will impact the vendors that you already trust to be there. You wouldn’t add food to your event without consulting the venue or caterer. The same should be true when it comes to music selections. Talk to you entertainer first, so you have all the information to make an educated decision.
